There is a multi-million dollar industry of private residential treatment programs operating throughout the U.S. that claim to treat "troubled teens." What many of these wilderness programs, boot camps and academies don’t market are their "treatments," which sometimes include food and water deprivation, beatings, hard labor, electric shock, public humiliation, denial of medical care, solitary confinement for weeks at a time, and worse.
